greetings to y'all - i have decided it is time to dump the volvo estate and get myself a merc.  i really like the pre '97 CE 2 door, which i have seen in the UK with either a 2.3 4 cyl or 3.2 6 cyl petrol motor.

I am less inclined towards the 230CE as the 320CE has better availability and I am concerned about the longevity/performance of the 4 pot motor given the size of the car.  Most examples of this age have 100K+ miles, what should I look out for on this model?  Am i right to go for the 6 cyl?

I guess my worry is will a '95 320CE auto eat me out of house and home with high running costs and horrible repair bills.  I am used to only getting 25 MPG out of the Volvo  and my annual mileage is fairly low - 10K miles or so.  Or should I go for the 230 instead?  Where is the best place to get a good one?

Any CE owners out there with a story to tell?

I have a U.S. version 1991 300CE.  The motor is the 24-valve motor, but is 3.0 liter displacement, instead of the 3.2.

I am pleased with this car (I purchased in 1995 with 70,000 miles).  I now have 186,000 miles and have the original motor and trans.  I have not even has to do a valve job yet.

If you can afford the fuel, get the I-6
