Has anyone had the transmission of S600 or 500 kickout of gear as the car downshifts and go to neutral, allthough the gear shift is in drive? Please let me know. The dealer has never heard of that, Amazingly enough it has happened on another car of mine 2003 SL55.
Thanks

Oh, my gosh....i think the S600 and the S430 are the same car. Mine "kicks" all the time.... You wrote to me re: the comand crash. i still haven't resolved my problem....

The transmission used in 2004 S430s and 2004 S600s are totally different.
2004 S430s are equipped with a 7-speed automatic or 5 speed automatic for 4-matic models
2004 S600s are equipped with a 5-speed automatic (different from S430 4-matic)

If any of these cars are under warranty I'm surprised that the dealer wil let you leave the lot. To me it can be a safety issue.  I'm thinking of coming down some of the mountains in my area....slow down and have it shift into neutral?  I think that would be a little unnerving!

what unit inside the transmission?  I am past 50k mi warranty, if this is a safety issue, would it be fixed free under some safety warranty, etc.?

If it was me I would definitely approach MB claiming it is a safety issue.  I think normally the safety parts of a car...seat belts and such are under a 5 yr warranty.  I once got Chrysler to replace a speedometer under the 5 yr. safety warranty.  (They had put the wrong gearing in so that the speedometer read 5 mph too slow).

there is a unit inside transmission that is resposible for changing gears, if you take off the transmission oil pan you will see it. I am getting mine replaced because my car was flooded, so transmission does kick out gears sometimes. I talked to dealer numerous times regarding safety issue, but i have no warranty at my 9k miles, so i had to pay for a new unit, they are not really expensive, i got the part with discount so its not that bad. In your place i would talk to your dealer.
