Hi all,

Just a quick question. I am looking at this model Mercedes at the moment:

http://www.carsales.com.au/used-cars/private/MERCEDES/C36/details.aspx?__sid=115D6C9AFDCA&Cr=2&__Ns=pCar_PrivateSpecialFlag_Int32|1||pCar_ImageCount_Int32|1||pCar_LastModifiedDate_DateTime|1&State=All%20States&distance=25&silo=1003&seot=0&__Nne=20&Model=C36&R=1751653&__N=1090+0+4294963928+834+285+257&Make=MERCEDES&state_id=0&trecs=4

I know that this car is an amazing machine and to treat it as a mere work horse is not why it was made, but I will be towing my race car (a Mini) to and from tracks every now and again, and I was wondering if the car is rated for this sort of work (I know the motor would pull it with no worries at all) more to what the manufacturer specifies!

(The link doesnt work, so if you copy and paste it, it will work)

Many thanks
Chris

That is not really a tow vehicle. Yes it may pull the Mini (and trailer?) in a straight line but what about emergency braking.....I doubt it was designed to stop more than its own girth! If you need a tow vehicle buy a tow vehicle - this aint it - IMO, unless you were towing something really light like less than 1000 pounds or so.

Try looking at a Mercedes ML 320, 430, 350 OR 500

Thanks for the feedback guys.

In the braking department, I would have assumed that the brakes on this car would be far better than your normal V6 sedan that most guys tow their cars with.

If you are familiar with Holden Commodores and Ford Falcons (not sure what country the majority of users are) they all tow cars with no worry at all. ?

I am not arguing with advice, just probing a bit further

U am familiar with those cars but they are not common in the United States. What country are you from?

Oh okay. I am from Australia.

A typical layout for our Commodore or Falcons are 3.6L (commodore) 4.0L (falcon) six cylinder motors, rear wheel drive.

They are nothing special, and are probably in between a merc C class and E class in size. have standard brakes etc. They tow a Mini with no worries at all. I would think that the C36 would out brake all of them?

Getting an M class would be out of the question for me, as they are a lot more expensive and much bigger.

Well it might stop itself like nobody's business, but was the braking system designed to stop it plus a 3000 pound Mini behind it? Not likely.

A race mini would way approximately 600kgs. the trailer would have brakes on it.

I can see that the over riding consesus is that NO it wouldnt be able to tow anything.

Thanks guys
