Some centre console lights not working

Hi guys. Have a minor problem. My 1995 SL280 (Europe only spec, I know) has lost illumination of the shifter (making it impossible to see what gear you've selected at night) as well as one (the right) side of the heater control knobs on the centre console. I am sure this must be a simple matter of replacement bulbs but have no idea how to approach accessing them. Can the panels be prised off or am I likely to damage something if I attempt this?
