Hi guys,
I have a 2002 UK spec SLK 230 auto. Recently it's developed a grinding noise when you lift off the throttle which definitely seems to be coming from the back of the car. Put your foot on the gas and it goes, lift off and it returns.
Any ideas what it might be? I've had it up on the ramp with the wheels off and nothing looks amiss.

Did you check your drive line and CV joints? just a thought.

Not a regular problem to the best of my knowledge.
Is there any sign of oil leakage from the rear differential? If so is the oil level in the diff OK? I hope so!!
Sounds like a typical on/off diff noise but difficult to tell without actually hearing the noise.
