Hi Guys.....
The PSE pump has been diagnosed as being faulty on my SLK230. My local MB dealer has quoted £450 to change it for a new one.
Can anyone give me some advice about replacing this unit myself? Where is the PSE pump located in a SLK? Is it a genuine MB part or can I buy it from another source (ie. Bosch, Lucas etc.)? Does it need setting up on a diagnostics machine or is it a simple part to replace? Where can I buy the part from (I am in the UK)?
Any advice appreciated.
Thanks
Martin

the right price is 322.50 euro if you go buy it yourself.
replacing it is very easy. it can be done with the simple tools provided with your car.
almost all of them are already coded which is not necessary to use the computer upon replacement.
i never been in UK and doesn't know where to buy it.
it is located at the back:

Sleepwalker (or anyone who can answer the question!)
I have managed to source a secondhand PSE pump, will this present any problems with coding when I fit it to my car?
Cheers

if it comes from the same model as your car, no need for coding.

Still need some help here guys.....
I have sourced a secondhand PSE pump for my SLK230. It is from exactly the same model and year as my car but the part numbers are different.
The PSE pump on my car is part number 170 800 0548
The part number on the secondhand unit is 170 800 1248
I want to make sure they are the same part before I part with my hard earned cash, can anyone reassure me???
Thanks (again)

Owners of later models SLK 2003/4 are saying that the pump now is fitted upside down so the water can drain out of the 3 holes in the cover, gets round the water coming down the cables.

Hi,
Where did you get a quote of 322.50 euro?
I've been quoted euro 535 + tax from a local MB dealer.
Thanks,
M

The price i was quoted recently from MBZ dealer was U.S. $510 (part only!) - waaaaay too much for what is essentially a design flaw (water coming thru via wires??) Anyway, finding this as a replacement part is pretty impossible outside MBZ, however contact the salvage yards in the area and ask if they have an SLK...the way this part is designed it is pretty interchangeable through a number of the model years. Also, the codes are already in, so it's pretty much a plug and play situation (not hard to remove, not hard to re-install)...hope this helps all others to avoid some of the frustration I went thru to fix my PSE

Thx Bazzle for the link and the instructions - actually, I read through it while trying to figure out what/where the hell the PSE was located - and so got the courage to try to do it myself!
Updating, I got the part installed - was able to put the unit back in upside down, which requires simply turning the unit on the horizontal axis (front becomes back) - this allows the wires to stretch so you can mount it upside down. Did spray WD-40 in the connectors but not the conformal coating on the PCB

and...voila! It works

Uh - with one *minor* annoyance - everytime I go to turn on the car, as soon as the key hits position '2' the car alarm goes off for exactly one "honk" of the horn - right now, i'm too pleased with the $500 i saved to be overly concerned...but it would be nice to figure out how to fix it
