I am thinking about replacing the factory radio and would like to know if this is a staight forward job. I know I need the key tool to pull the radio, any other advise from anyone that has done it.
Pics would be great too

if you have the keys to do it its really easy. Just make sure you have the radio code for the new radio otherwise it will not work. I also recommend writing the radio code for your old radio on the back with permanent marker, incase you decide to use it later.

I wrote my code on the sticker in the back of the glove box, so I have it anytime the battery is disconnected.

I found it pretty easy to remove the radio without the special tools. I used a thin, flat blade screwdriver. One side, then the other.

I replaced the stock radio with the Becker Audio 10. It has a single CD player instead of cassette, and I believe the sound quality is better. Although I have the 6 disc changer in the trunk, I find the convenience of a dash mounted CD for 'mood' music is worth the $250 I paid for it. Run this search on Ebay - http://search.ebay.com/search/search.dll?from=R40&satitle=merce*+audio+10

It's a direct replacement for the factory radio, and still allows the use of the CD changer over the factory fiber connections. Installation took about 5 minutes. The only problem I had was that it does not support the factory voice control option like the stock radio did, but it really isn't a lot of trouble to press a button.

BTW, my SLK is 2001 320, but I imagine it is the same for 230.

The Becker looks like a great solution. Did you upgrade your door speakers?

Yeah, the audio looks nice. Did you change the speakers?? and can I change my AMP to a larger size??

According to previous posts changing out amps, etc requires a full system upgrade with all non-Bose items used.

I didn't change anything else, just dropped the Becker in and plugged the cables in, including fiber for the CD changer in the trunk. I generally don't blast when I'm listening, but I do rattle the windows occasionally and I listen while cruising with the top down. Sounds fine to me.

I recently got an SLK 230, 2001. having difficulties finding any type of cd player or mp3 player to go on it. since it's fiber optics, and will cost me a lot to get an adapter kit. anyone have any suggestion for upgrading my am/fm radio?

I just had Best Buy in Myrtle Beach replace the radio and tape deck in my 01 slk with an Alpine with single CD player in radio, has satellite and ipod capabilities and works great. Cost was around $250.

If anybody want to buy a Mercedes Audio 10 CD, you must know that there are two different Audio 10 CD for your Mercedes to buy.

The Alpine Audio 10 CD angularly for example for the C-Class w202 and the Becker Audio 10 CD is roundly for example for C-Class w203. If anyone won´t to buy it, must look which one you need. Nobody must change his speakers.
