raisng Idle speed

I need help to raise the idle speed on my 1984 380SL, Any help or direction anyone could give me would be greatly appreciated. There does not appear to be any adjustment screw on the linkage so I am assumming it is done at the fuel distributor.

The engine type is a 116962 and it has no electronic controls at all. It is a 1984 model 380SL V8 3.8 Liter .

The car is idling at 450 to 500 RPM in Gear and about 650RPM in neutral.

it doesn't compensate with the load.

i would like you to understand that many parameters could affect such problem on your engine and only by proper tests conducted by trained technicians that it can be easily rectified. it can be from dirty or restricted components to parts failure.

since your engine is purely of mechanical system, you may start looking at adjustments and binding linkages.

first try to adjust from the CO adjusting screw... just in case it is running lean. you can find it on the throttle body, just behind the sensor plate housing. it might still have a blind plug on it. just extract that plug(cover or cap).

somewhere in the middle of the air cleaner housing, there is a small hole where you can adjust without removing the air cleaner (if that plug is already out).

that will temporarily fix your idle speed problem... but take it to the expert like MB/TECHMAN
