Default W210 Headrest Trouble (1999)

My 1999 E300 Turbodiesel's driver side headrest was weird for some time, adjustable, but when the seat was moved forward of back the headrest moved up and down on its own while the seat moved. For about a week now the darned headrest is permanently stuck very high up. So high that I'm not sure it's giving me (5' 10") much protection. And so high that it provides no protection at all to my wife which is obviously dangerous. When I push the control to raise or lower the headrest there is no response and no noise that I can hear, such as a click or some other sign of life. Is there a way to find out if the switch is bad and not the motor? And if the motor is shot, how can I replace it? Where is it, exactly? And how can I remove the headrest? I tried pushing the control for the headrest while pulling or pushing the headrest up or down, but no joy.
