On my 1994 S320 with 72K miles, I have reset my check engine light 4 times (at a shop) and turned it off 3 times myself by disconnecting the battery. The fault that came up is the cam position sensor. I replaced that sensor and the O2 sensors(x2) and after about the 7th or 8th start and run the light comes back on.

No performance issues, the car comes off the line just great, starts everytime, well, almost everytime, twice I had to actually push on the gas after the engine cranked more than 10 seconds, then it started. Gas mileage is consistent at 22mpg in and out of town. Three independent shops hooked up to the diagnostics and got the same bad camshaft sensor fault code. This is the twincam 3.2 litre and I can feel the cam come on, so it is working ok.

Anyway, all three shops have suggested something called "phantom codes". Nothing really wrong, just that annoying check engine light on all the time. Solution? they proposed a new ECM (Brain). At $1200 or there abouts, I am reluctant to do that and I am looking for input before I break down and take this car to the MB Stealer for diagnosis. Since the Camshaft sensor is over $100 I am reluctant to do it again.

Any help is greatly appreciated....
