Hola,

My wife and I just bought our 2000 C280 Sport (silver as well) about 10 days ago.  We're enjoying it but will be taking it into the shop next week for the second time for minor fixes - fuel gauge and radio problems.  Damn, I can't wait for all this niggly stuff to be put in order.

Cheers,

Todd

Todd, there's a TSB concerning your fuel gauge problems, very common on the C class.  They have to replace the sending unit in the tank.  I bet it quit working right after you filled the car up with gas, that's how the one in my wifes C230 quit working.  The good news is once the sending unit is replaced you probably won't have any more problems with it.  Expect your MAF (mass air-flow sensor) to go bad on you too, these are a very common faulty part.

The radio is another pain the *SS, especially if it's equipped with the CD changer that constantly reads "empty, or load disc".  The dealership/stealership has to reprogram it using "their very own" hand held computer, or HHT as it's more commonly referred to, and if that doesn't work it has to be replaced.

I agree with the MAF unit, mine went last summer, I was running a pipercross filter at the time. I found that it was unable to punch through 3500 rpm on the move...it is a protection circuit in the ecu apparently. So if you find that you cant make progress through the rev range thats probably the problem..dont try it stationary though....it will always do it stationary...i think it drops a cylinder or two and rocks the engine in the bay as a result to stop you doing damage.
