Hey, I am new here and have never owned a Benz before.
I'm moving to florida(daytona area) in less than a month and my mom knows this guy that would be willing to sell his 00 SLK230 for under 10,000 with 95000 mi. on it.
Now this seems like a nice deal to me however I have no idea where to go about with making sure the car is going to be ok.
It's a hardtop convertible and I've just started talking with the owner via email about the car. Apparently he just doesn't drive it anymore and isn't actively trying to sell it but heard my mom and offered it to me.
Also My parents and I will be splitting the cost of the car as I'm in grad school and 10K was our budget roughly. It's a sweet looking car.
My dad is a huge skeptic about the car and that since it's german it will be super expensive to fix.
What kind of problems are common with the SLK's and around when have they been found

are there any facts out there that could help me convince my dad that Benz are worth the investment?
Also what are some recommended checks to make sure are done before purchasing the vehicle?
