Hello fellow MB enthusiasts! I'm John and my '89 300E is my 5th benz - I guess it's my addiction! Anyway, I bought this car for $500. not running. Since the #4 rod exited the block I had no choice but replace the engine.
The (replaced) engine starts right up and it idles fine and has no acceleration problems. Once it's warmed up then it acts like it's starving for fuel because pressing the accelerator pedal doesn't do much except for causing it to downshift. The engine never died, it just lacks power.
The O2 and fuel injection temp sensors are new and I think I have all the vacuum lines in the right places. Anyway, hopefully you experts can shed some light on this problem!

lol there could be 1000 things wrong with your car check the lambda ratio set at about 40%-45%. and this is only the tip on the iceburg i would take it to a dealer and have them diagnosis it.

Thanks, vytamenc! I've done some troubleshooting the past couple of days and I agree that it probably is a Lambda issue as the computer is definitely leaning out the engine when warmed up. I disconnected the O2 sensor and it runs much better - yes, I know that this isn't a fix!
Tomorrow, I'm picking up a pressure gage set so I can check the upper and lower chamber pressures. More to follow...
