Anyone know what's the deal with the Ipod intergration kits? Where to get one besides the dealer? Got to save a buck you know. How hard are they to install.

If you want the steering wheel controls and dash display to work with the Ipod, then I think you have no choice but to use the one from the dealer. If you have basic knowledge of installing/removing a car radio the installation is actually very easy. You do need to take your car to the dealership after physically installing the kit so they can program the computer to work the Ipod. I was told that if your car has that tele-aid thing activated then no programing is needed.

I want the official MB unit. Just wanted a lower cost supplier than the local dealer. I do want to install it myself. I can see how that will fly if the dealer needs to program it. No way they will not want to reinstal it. There will be some excuse I did not do it right.
OK folks, how do they program it?

Took me less than an hour to install. I think it was about 40.00 to program. it's a very easy install so long as you know your way around a car dash.

Where did you get yours? What is the programming all about?

Depending on whether or not the phone menu in the instrument cluster is already activated, you may (or may not) need to get your IC reprogrammed through Star.
