between parts and install the dealer wants about $500 or more u.s.

As a possible suggestion, try going to
www.overstock.com and look for IPOD accessories. There is a unit for around $145 that plugs into the cigaretter lighter. It serves as a charger, and it also has a FM transmitter so your music can be played through your sound system. The unit is designed for the standard IPOD and IPOD Minis. The only issue might be if the shift lever is too close to the cigarette lighter. I saw the unit at OVERSTOCK, but I have not yet purchased the item. Is anyone else using this IPOD accessory in their SLK.
Another alternative would be to simply buy an FM transmitter device that plugs into the IPOD earbuds recepticle. Usually you can pick one of 4 possible FM channels to use, and your music will then play through your stereo system. I bought one at a Radio Shack store for around $29.
