Hello everyone. I am new here to Mercedes Forums. I just bought a white 2001 SLK320 Roadster on Wednesday, June 15th, 2005. I posted the pictures in Off Topic for the "Lets See Your Ride(s)" thread. Just thought I'd stop in and say hello. My name is Alyssa. I'm 22. I am an office manager for a landscaping and mulching company during the day. Bartender at night, and promotional model on weekends. Um, I love dogs, cars, and motorcycles. Anything else you would like to know, feel free to ask. I'm pretty open! Fill me in on yourselves as well!

Good luck with the beautiful car. I had a Harley electroglide, had it painted blue, in honor of the movie of the same name with the (now) infamous. Robert Blake who was aquitted on murder charges. I bought it new, but didn't have it very long, joined the service, during the Nam, so I am giving away my age. Old enought to be your dad. I have a daughter who is 25. Your doing OK at 21. Your also very busy, car payments are tough, I see your a model, good for you. It is also nice to see more woman on the board, cars aren't just a guy thing. I hope you wash your car at least once a week and polish and wax at least 2 to 3 times a year and in between use a good detailing spray, change your own oil, you can pump it out of the dipstick, and perform other routine maintenance? Also nice to see a young person on the board, us geriatric's need some youth on board. Young minds new ideas!

Sup Alyssa. I'm pretty new here also.

32. Dallas. 2002 C240 (pic in the same forum yours is in). Jobless since Jan, living on severance cashola. Also love dogs, that's the "Bandit" below.

Thank you for the warm welcomes! I have 2 Golden Retrievers. Benny and Sage. I also have a Ball Python named Amber and a Beta Fish named Izzy in my office. I love my dogs though...more personable than a snake or fish. Haha.

C280, ah, don't worry about the age thing. Who cares?! (By the way, I am 22, not 21.) I have actually washed my car 3 times since I have had it. (I get her back today! She was in the shop for broken catalytic converters...headlight condensation...broken cigarrette lighter...for my cell phone. and a few other minor things.) But our pollen rate up here is HIGH, so it gets covered after sitting outside of my work for 8 hours. It also just got a coat of wax last week. But, this weekend I am going to take a buffer to it. I have some sun swirls in the hood and on the trunk. I already did claybar, didn't have the time to buff her. I am 100% capable of changing my own oil, my own spark plugs and wires, rotating tires, (speaking of, I need to see if my tires are directional...I know the tires in the rear are wider so they cannot be rotated...but I am still capable of doing it!) I can change batteries, fuses, I helped weld on a new exhaust for a junker Grand Am I am trying to sell. Umm...what else can I do...I am certifed to mount and balance tires. I can check my air pressure...obviously. I can usually diagnose problems with vehicles too. I could feel my timing belt slipping on my old car. Waited a little too long to replace it, blew my water pump. When the belt snapped, it whacked my crank shaft and dented it. I had to replace that too. So...yeah, I think I have given you plenty of examples of my mechanical inclinations! I hope anyway...:)

pbk, I hang out in Allentown a lot! Well, near Dorney Park. I've only had my car up there twice though. We go out on the street racing scene...so I always ride with other people. Their cars are 500+HP...mine isn't even close. So...I also don't want to get popped by the police and have my car impounded.

And from what I read, they do that. The cops forget what fun is. I might be up in years but i still remember the fun days and I still love cars.

The guys I hang out with are friends with a couple of the officers there, but it's still not going to get them out of everything. I wish the cops would allow it as long as we're not on a major road or around a lot of people. I mean, I know, that's what the track is for. But street racing is free. ;)

i participate in both track and street racing...but i find that the "hardcore street racers" are the ones who cant pull good lights at the track...

Haha, Patrick, that is true! I have yet to take my car on the track. I just got it back though on Wednesday, so, I still have time to take it out. :)

Hi SLK320Chic,

Welcome to the forum and congrats on the new SLK320 Roadster. I'll have to take a peek in the "Lets See Your Ride(s) thread" and checkout the pictures of it.

I hope you enjoy this place and your new Benz as much as many of us here do.

It's an awesome place to exchange ideas and to help keep these Sweet Benz Autos on the road.

Nice to meet you and have a great stay !

Cheers,
TJ

Just peeked at your new car in the "Lets See Your Ride(s)" thread. Looks absolutely Sweeeeeet!

Bet it's fun to drive as well eh ?

I love the retractable hardtop on those .... My SL600 Hardtop is a pain to deal with .... I'm in the process of installing a lift in the garage ceiling to suspend it from. (also makes for much easier removal/installation)

Anyway, have a good one !

Cheers,
TJ

Haha, thank you SL600...I do love it! It's a blast to drive! I had a 91 Toyota MR2 and that thing was a dream when it came to handling turns at high speeds...this...is CLOSE...but I need to do a suspension upgrade so it hugs those corners with minimal body roll. It's not shabby, but could use a little more tuning. :)

My pleasure,

It's funny that you say '91 Toyota MR2..... I just helped a friend of mine rebuild his engine for one. '91 Turbo MR2 Pretty quick little car that handles pretty awesome.

A little tweaking and your Benz should easily surpass anything you've experienced in an MR2.

And for some strange reason it just rolls off the tounge so much nicer.....
ie.. when people say what kind of car do you have ?......... When you say Mercedes Benz .... there just something about it. It just has class written all over it !

Mercedes has had such prestige in so many countries that just mentioning the name of one still makes people go ahhhhhhhh.

Anyway, please take care and have a blast at whatever you do.

Cheers,
TJ

SL600...I'm hoping my car does exceed my expectations once I get all my upgrades done. I'm sure it will. It has already. It's a powerful, beautiful piece of machinery...I adore it. A lot of people admire my car. I don't think it's spectacular...but it gets a lot of looks. SL55 AMG Kompressor is what I am aiming for. :)

Sounds like a nice thing to aim for :)

Have an awesome day!

SL600 you say you are putting in a roof lift, did you buy one or are you making your own from the hardware store?

actually, two people can do it, but it is an advantage for storage.

Interesting to read your credentials for crawling around under the hood. BRAVO! I wish my daughter and wife cared a little more about what goes on under the hood. I admit though that they ran the jack together to lift the transmission up under the 240D when I changed it a couple of weeks ago. Anyways I used to live out near Bradford PA.

Sorry for the delay in answering this one :)

The garage was the project of the moment and it's almost completed, so within the next few weeks I should be working on the roof lift, and depending upon if I can find what I'm looking for or not, I may have to end up making one.

I'll post the final results once I get it done.

Cheers

Ah, muchos gracias mi amigos! For those of you that don't understand Spanish...I said, Thank you very much my friends!

Unfortunate news though...the SLK is gone. I kept running into problem after problem after problem with the car. Questioned myself "Okay, obviously something is seriously wrong here. Now what is it?" Went and ran a CarFax on the car. Turns out, it was in a severe accident down in Florida. Which my car dealer did not inform me of. So, I paid entirely too much for the car, my extended warranty I bought was a crock of...poop. I went through a whole ordeal with the dealership, their affiliates, and have even spoken to a lawyer concerning everything that went down. Unfortunately, I can't claim on the lemon law, I can't sue them for anything, and I couldn't even cancel the warranty I bought to get the money back that I paid for it. I only owned the car for a month and a half. From my trade in on my other car, and how much I could only get for the Benz...I took about a $10,000 hit. Which sucks. Now I have a 2004 Mazda 6. What a change. I still absolutely love Mercedes, and I loved my car with all my heart. I balled like a little baby when I left it at the dealership with my new car. But I told myself that I definitely learned from this situation, and there will be plenty of time for me to eventually get another one. Hopefully I will prepare myself for the next time around. I am sure the dealer I bought the Benz from saw me coming from miles away...! *sigh*

I am so sorry to hear about your experience :(

Hopefully your lawyer will be able to ream them bastards !

That really sucks though.........

So what was happening with the car ? Too many things going wrong ? or was it just that they weren't covered under warranty ?

Anyway, congrats on the new Mazda, I hope it treats you well. If you ever need advice or someone to ask a question to, please don't hesitate.

I have full manuals on that car as well, so if you need info let me know (I should have it).

Other than that... have fun !

Cheers,
TJ
