instrument cluster light bulbs

I have a 2002 e320 station wagon. The lights on the speedo, tach, engine temp and fuel level went out. Thanks to this site, I was able to remove the instrument cluster. Now I called MB for the bulbs and they said that the 2W one costs 8.73 and the 1.3w one costs 6.45. Well I wanted to replace all the bulbs so I do not have to pull out the cluster again in the near future. My question is if there is are any after market bulbs that I can use instead of the MB ones? I heard some people use sylvania 194 but that wattage is different. Is it still okay to use the 194 to replace the 2w bulbs? Thanks.

Find your model/year and search for keyword bulb.

Different wattage is likely to cause a lamp malfunction warning.How did all the bulbs go out at the same time?I would check each one with a multimeter on continuety check and check the cluster fuse.

I have the boxed set of cluster tools hooks and radio and climate control keys for $27 delivered in the states.Makes removing the cluster a 2 minute job.Same with the radio or cc when its bulb goes out.

Thank you ohlord and k_alavi.  I tested the two 2W bulbs and they are fine.  I believe they are the ones that light the dials (speedo,tach,gas,engine temp) because they are not directly behind a lit up part of the cluster.  All other bulbs are 1.3W and are directly behind a lit up part of the cluster.  Also, inspected all fuses and replaced the two for the instrument cluster with spares.  Still no light on the cluster when headlights are turned on.  In addition, ohlord pointed out that all the dial lights went out at the same time.  So, most likely not a bulb problem.  Only thing left is the instrument cluster.  Any other ideas before I purchase a new instrument cluster?  Thanks

Stick with OEM bulbs. A slightly bigger bulb, or something over the specified wattage generates more heat and could cause burn marks or melt nearby plastic parts. These bulbs do not go out often and even more remote, they do not go out all at one time. Send me pictures of the bulbs and maybe I can help you get them, oem used.

The gauges work,just the bulbs went out correct?Did you try the harness connection?When loose it can cause all the lights to fail.I would test it and all fuses before getting drastic and looking for a new cluster.Fuse list on benzworld.org w210 diy section.
