gas cap / check engine light

I have had this happen before :
warning light comes on and says gas cap loose ,,ok I fix it and goes away and then sometimes the check engines light follows ,,and again it goes out ,,HHHmmm!! this time its been 3 days and the light id not going out ?????
and ideas on what I need to do???

Hi,

Get the DTC Diagnostic trouble Codes read (and make a record of them) in the Engine Management System and RESET the CEL Check Engine light.
Sometimes the light may not return. It COULD save a repeat trip to the garage..

Any garage with an OBDII scanner should be able to do this.

This will give an indication of the problem.

thank you , but I am alittle new at this ,,how do I get the DTC Diagnostic trouble Codes , in the Engine Management ? is this with a tool or is it something I have access thru something my car had that I do not know about ??

Hi,
You need an OBDII compliant scanner. You can buy these on eBay/auto shops etc but an alternative is to get them read at your local garage (may be chargeable. 2 minute job).

YUp you need a diagnostic machine OBD II to get rid of those trouble codes....
