E300 owner, seen 1992 S500...

Just registered today so hi all from UK! I own a W124 300E and have had no probs but really want an S class (last shape) I have seen an S500 LWB on uk J plate (1992) It has done 170k and needs MOT but is cheap at moment (ebay) Are there any expensive, or common things to look for? I know the MPG will not be great but what the hell, £60k worth of car for a couple of grand, you have to compromise! any suggestions would be welcome, as would example parts costs. I have home serviced my E300 with no probs, would like to continue this if possible...

Early 140s had problems with the AC evaporator (think remove dash) $3K fix in the US. "BOSE amps" $600, "Closing assist" $800, at 170K Timing chain has to be a question (not very common), window regulators.

It is a great car but have someone look at it carefully, you could spend the purchase price with one visit to have it repaired, it is very complicated and no manuals are avaiable so independent shops stumble around.
