c180 1993 problem after problem

where do i start ?
bit by bit or all in one.
right first thing that went was the ignition bought a S/H one from a scrappy, had to break the old one out as the barrel would not get to the second clic to allow it to be removed, the black fitting that go's on the back of the barrel came apart, i had to fit all the wires back in found a drawing, but the first problem starts here. the wire's were quite straight forward all different colours until you get to red, there are two of them a thin one and i thick one, not knowing which one went where i just guessed. well it worked. now since his day one thing after another has gone wrong, so is this the problem for all the others to be mentioned below 

part 2
since changing the barrel the car has started running sluggish, the rev's just go up and down and it will just stall when ever it feel's like.now when i turn the steering wheel it cuts out to. 

part 3
the battery is running down and going flat and when it does i cant open the boot to get at the battery to charge it, (have found if its left in the sun it gets just enough power to open the central locking)
and now it has no automatic choke if i rev it for about 5 mins its ok and will tick over but eratic (up and down up and down) until it cuts out

part 4
now i have an abs warning light on the dash, the radio has lost all its pr-set channels and the speedo has stopped working.
 
suerlly this cannot all be down to the ignition barrel going ??????
