I hope this brave woman has some good hiding places: Video

Wow! Free thinking woman openly dismissed because she is an infidel. Reformation will be painful for the old school Muslim leaders won't it?

I just hope she isn't a walking corpse...

Yeah, what she said.

BTW, did you know MEMRI was founded by a Jew? He was a colonel in the Israeli Intelligence Service.

She says it how it is, that's very respectful. That other guy seems to be defending too much.

This is a good example of why their religion wants to keep their women undereducated. It is really impressive to see someone like this step up and risk her life for what she believes!

They need some tough al-Mother types over there to take names and spank some ass. There's nothing worse than the rage of a fed-up mother. Look at nature, of which we are all a part. It's the mothers that most often stifle knuckleheadedness, steer evolution and facilitate advancements, whereas the fathers most often just kill each other.

Her name is Wafa Sultan and she is a Syrian expatriate. She now lives in the US and works as a psychology professor.
I'm quite surprised that Al Jazeera would allow such a cogent argument in opposition to widely held religious beliefs of Middle Eastern Muslims. I wouldn't bet on a long life for Ms. Sultan.
I heard a bit of information on the profile of suicide bombers. You might think they are a few thousand down and out losers with not a lot upstairs.
Untrue: There are hundreds of thousands willing to kill innocent civilians in there dark departure from this life. They are middle class with college educations and often arrive in Iraq from neighboring Islamic countries.

A good enough excuse to remove them as students from US colleges and close our borders to these nations. IMHO.

Perhaps we're not seeing the entire Al Jazeera broadcast? They most likely sliced 'n' diced her rant for ridicule at some point. I'm sure they didn't just let it go after what we heard. It would be equally interesting (and revealing) to hear what was said in response, even if it were only editorial.

Al Jazeera is undoubtedly the most fair and balanced news source in the ME. They may have a substantial bias that most non-Muslims don't appreciate, but they're a helluva lot better than the rest of the crap these folks are spoon-fed on a regular basis. I say let's just give it up for Al Jazeera for broadcasting this -- they deserve some credit and should be encouraged to likewise in the future.

That may be, but I don't think that's saying a whole lot. It's like saying out of 100 sharks, you'd rather swim with the one that only ate six people instead of twelve like the other 99.

If we saw the rest of the broadcast, we would undoubtedly see that they provided air time to Wafa Sultan only so they could butcher what she said with their usual moribundity and to air some snarky remarks about Israel and the US. The only thing left is for some Muslim Bozo leader to issue a Fatwa on her for what she said.

My money says that's the real motivation behind Al Jazeera's "openness" is to rile up the local folks.

Also, if Al Jazeera were fair and balanced, that would likely be preceived as some sort of support for the West. They would have been bombed by a crazed Muslim nutcase suicide murderer long ago.

Do you ever spend any time poking around their Website? They're really not as bad as you're letting on...

All Muslim organizations talk the talk, but I'm not aware of any that walk the walk. From the Arab street to CAIR in the US, from individual terrorists around the world to governments who support and endorse them, they all say what you want to hear and then do their best to cause mayhem and death while claiming to be peaceful. Al Jazeera is no different.

Sorry, I assumed you were aware that Al Jazeera is the name of a news agency, and an extremely competent, if rather biased one. Learn before tossing blanket condemnations around, and try to give a little credit where it's due, particularly in regard to airing this video.

Does Fox try to pass itself off as a news network, while serving as little more than a propoganda agency with paid moles for the current administration? How much time have you spent at the Al Jazeera Website?

Normally, I would accept your invitation to switch this discussion to personal attacks. But, NAH. You should be in a better mood. I heard it finally rained there.

Al Jazeera's bias is the gist of my argument. To say that a "news agency" is biased and competent is an oxymoron. You're essentially saying they're really good at being really bad. Give them credit for that? Okay, fine.

I find it odd that you applaud Al Jazeera for being biased, yet find it necessary to bad mouth Fox News for doing the same. What's the difference in your mind? You seem a bit confused on this issue and it's you that needs to do some learning. At least take the blinders off and look around. See?

Paid moles? Look, some of the News magazine shows have patriotic conservative comentators ( YOu obvioulsy are on the other side of the isle) but they don't make a secret of their politics. Their straight news programs are no more biased to the American right than CNN, ABC, NBC, or CBS are biased to the American left. An American news agency SHOULD have patriotic tendencies- such as not broadcasting news that would help an enemy during war. Al Jazeera, on the other hand, has no loyalty to the US government and in fact is glad to disclose information that hurts our war effort. Don't you think this is a significant distinction between US news outlets and Al Jazeera?

All news is biased, and I certainly don't think it's unusual to show bias for one's own culture, do you? Just like you're showing bias in your comparison of Al Jazeera and Fox. Al Jazeera showed a competent Arab woman who presented a shockingly lucid and nearly inarguable commentary that opposed that culture. I doubt that Fox would do something similar in regard to the current administration.

I am shocked that Al Jazeera aired that video, and applaud them for it. My issue with your assessment of Al Jazeera is that you seem to have equated a news agency with a terrorist organization. What on earth is your criteria for that analogy? I hope it's something other than race...
