Default car phone question

Howdy! Since I'm new I guess I have to give a little intro. Im 29, saved and worked hard and got me a new CLK. Its only a 200 kompressor but with traffic here in the Philippines, an SL500 would be of little use other than eye candy. And MB prices here are crazy! I paid $68,000 for my car and I know it goes for about $50,000 or less in other countries. Talk about taxes!

Anyway, my question is this, the car came with a built in phone cradle which is integrated into the steering wheel controls. Its a Nokia 6310i that I got free with some arm twisting. I know MB changes body styles every 8 years so does this mean I am stuck with this phone til I get a new benz (ya right)? Or are there places where I can change the car cradle for a particular phone type?

The Only Phones that Mercedes has with the Factory cell phones are the 6310I Nokia and Motorola...It Sure would be great if the cradle could be changed!

Default car phone question

I am yet to receive my currently on order and long awaited CLK320 Cabriolet (in Australia) and am also astounded that I am about to go backwards in time like an unwilling time traveller to use a Nokia 6210 because this is what MB install. How can this be! It makes no sense that MB are stuck on this technology.

Does anyone know if this is going to change soon?

Is it possible that MB could go to Bluetooth and then the cradle or phone matters little. (As long as it is Bluetooth enabled)

I was also advised this week that Nokia are changing their car kits and in future 6310i's will not fit Its the most commonly used phone and pre install gsm fitting but Nokia are discontinuing here in the UK ???

Default RE: car phone question

It is absolutely ridiculous that MB can only cope with dynosaur phones in their cars. I have a new CLK cab and had to downgrade my Sony P900 to a poxy Nokia brick (6310i) as this was the only phone that the dealer knew for sure would work with the inbuilt handsfree. Pish! I can't see how MB will be able to cope with a Bluetooth upgrade in all cars with the currend 'old' COMMAND system. It looks like we owners are stuck with using naff old technology phones for incar use and will have to use a secondary mobile / PDA. A dual simcard is also no use as sharing the one telephone number with 2 handsets loses GPRS functionality - what I need to access email etc. on my laptop and PDA.
