When pumping gas the pump handle keeps clicking off like the tank is full when it is only at half a tank. Unable to figure out what the problem is, have tried different gas stations to elimate the possiblity that it was the gas station pump being faulty. Any suggestions?

I have the same vehicle. Never had that happen to me...yet. Does your area use vapor recovery boots on the nozzles? You must be getting some sort of splash back on the nozzle to kick of the flow. Hum? Did you try slowing down the flow?

Have tried varying the speed flows but to no avail. Know or heard anything about a fuel tank filter or sensor?

That happens to me occasionally on different cars at different stations. I just pull the nozzle out a little until it flows constantly. Have you tried that? Be careful that you don't pull it out too far or the gas won't stop when the tank is full.

i disable my email for i always get a lot.

the only thing i have in mind is that the filler neck breather tube is restricted or clogged.

it's about two inch below the opening.

i'm just not sure, but in USA version...it might go to the carbon canister for they do not allow dumping fuel fumes to the atmosphere.

if that carbon canister is clooged or the valve before it.... then it will cause such problem.

can you feel the air gushing out from the filler neck? it is suppose to go out from the breather pipe. if pressure builds up inside, the fuel may spill out too... triggering the pump.

Sleepwalker---
Could my2 problems be related.
Pumping gas & not wanting fully crank along with stalling out.

Taken by mechanic, but each time unable to diagnose check engine light.

Sleepwalker,

Diagram ? Is the carbon canister fairly easy to get to? The diagram is a little confusing.

I''m suffering the exact same problem after an accidental overfill in my SLK 230. Gas fumes are terrible! Where the heck is the vapor recovery canister on my car?

My 2001 SLK does the same thing. I can fill to about 3/4 full, then if I want to put in more, I have to keep clicking a little bit at a time. Takes a long time to make it full. I thought all SLK''s were that way. I''ve tried all the tricks, nothing makes any difference.
